Mexico: Mezcal, Molé and More
March 10-19, 2025
Mexico is a country rich in culture, art, and history dating back thousands of years,
before the arrival of the Spanish. The country retains many colonial era structures
and pre-colonial sites whose mysteries are continually explored today by archaeologists,
anthropologists, and historians.The trip includes 4-star hotels, travel on private buses, and knowledgeable local tour guides throughout our stay.
Mexico City was the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán and is the oldest urban city in the Western hemisphere. During our stay, we'll visit:
- Aztec Ruins of the Templo Mayor, Colonial-era Cathedral on the Zocalo
- Museum of Anthropology and Chapultepec Park
- Colonial village of Coyoacán, Frida Kaloe home, Trotsky Museum
- Basilica of Guadalupe
- Boat ride on Aztec-period waterway of Xochimilco
- Tour of Teotihuacan, ancient pyramid city dating to 6th century BC
While in Oaxaca and the surrounding area, we will:
- Visit Zapotec ruins of Monte Alban and its Ball Court, Conservatory, Palace, and Grand Plaza
- Tour Mitla (archaeological site) and the 2000 year old Tule Tree
- Stop at distillery for mezcal tasting
- Tour handicraft workshops of the indigenous community
- Have a guided tour of San Miguel Tilcajete including alebrijes workshops and class on painting wooden animals
- Sample local molés for which Oaxaca is known.
- Have a sightseeing tour of Oaxaca City including Cathedral, Casa Juarez (home of liberal reformer and Mexican president Benito Juarez)
- Shop at the city's best handicraft and food markets
Trip Cost: $2,750:
- Deadline to register: NOVEMBER 15, 2024
- Cost excludes airfare (typically costs around $600), lunch, and dinner.
- Full Breakfast INCLUDED each day.
Accessibility:
- Some trips involve walking on grass and off of paved walkways.
- Participants should also be able to walk on cobble-stone surfaces.

- International travel passport required
- Participation in OLLI fall classes on Mexico is highly recommended.
